Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary

The Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, India. The sanctuary derives its name from the Peppara Dam, which was constructed in 1983 to enhance the drinking water supply to Thiruvananthapuram city and its suburbs. Recognizing the ecological importance of the region, it was designated as a sanctuary in the same year. It is a part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve.

Covering an expanse of 53 square kilometres, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary encompasses tropical evergreen forests, moist mixed deciduous forests, and semi-evergreen forests, with the majority being moist mixed deciduous. Renowned for its diverse wildlife, the sanctuary is habitat to Asian elephants, Nilgiri Langur, leopards, gaurs, lion-tailed macaques, slender lorises, sambar deer, and leopard cats, with occasional sightings of tigers.
