Kerala s not just its beaches, lush green hills and forests. It also holds an important place in Indian history as it is the first place where Vasco-da-gama landed when he came to India.

Kerala actually served as the entry point for foreigners through sea in India. Hence, there are a lot of Forts and Palaces built here. The Krishnapuram palace situated at Alappuzha was built in the 18th century.

The palace is a treasure trove for ancient paintings, inscriptions, coins, artifacts and sculptures that are kept on display inside the palace. The Palakkad Fort which is an ancient fort whose actual date of construction is not known is also called as Tipu’s Fort.

It served as a military base in past history and was renovated and is now a protected monument by the government. Other palaces and forts includes the Mattancherry palace, Koyikkal palace and the Bekal Fort.
