With their colorful Pookalam, boat races and a feast fit for a king, Kerala celebrates like no other State in the country. Onam is the most important festival celebrated in Kerala.

This festival is celebrated by people of all religions as it marks the yearly visit of their beloved king Mahabali who comes once in every year from the underworld to visit his subjects. The people of Kerala mark his visit as the most auspicious day of the year and welcome him with the beautifully decorated ‘Pookalam’, the Onam Sadhya and the traditional thumbi Thullal.

During the first day of the Malayalam month Medam, Hindus celebrate Vishu which marks the beginning of a new year in the Malayalam calendar. Other festivals celebrated in Kerala includes Christmas, Easter, Deepavali and Ramadan.
