Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, also known as the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is situated near Kothamangalam in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. It is the first bird sanctuary in Kerala. Covering an expanse of 25 square kilometres in the foothills of the Western Ghats, the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary stands as Kerala's first bird sanctuary, established by the renowned ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali in 1983.

Named after the renowned scientist and ornithologist, Dr. Salim Ali, often referred to as the 'Birdman of India', this sanctuary is hailed by him as the ‘richest bird habitat in peninsular India’.

Renowned for its diverse birdlife, the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary/ Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary hosts over 270 avian species, including exotic birds like the Sunbird, Night Heron, and Crested Serpent Eagle. Visitors can also spot common species such as the Blue Kingfisher and Jungle Myna. Keep an eye out for special sightings like the Indian Pitta, which visits every six months.
