Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhimgad wildlife sanctuary is located in the belagavi district of Karnataka and is spread over an area of 190 sq km. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in December 2011 and is also known for the barapede caves, which are known as a breeding areas for endangered bats. The sanctuary is distinguished for its rich vegetation, deep forests, and varied topography. It is a portion of the Western Ghats a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its enormous biological richness and ecological significance. It’s a home for other species like the Malabar grey hornbill, imperial pigeon, emerald dove, tigers, leopards, bears, and so on. Bhimgad fort is located inside the bhimgad wildlife sanctuary and was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during the 17th century as a defence from Portuguese. The fort has freshwater ponds, canons, and large walls that are comparatively undamaged. These rare and amazing large cats are only known to exist in a few locations, including this sanctuary. It is also home to a variety of plant species, including several rare ones. The activities visitors can enjoy here are bird watching, greener nature, and wildlife photography.
