In this program we take you to a heritage walk across the city of Fort Cochin, a local family visit where you get a chance to interact and dine with them, a village walk presenting you some blissful live scenes of rural Kerala, a Kathakali [Kerala dance form] experience, a visit to the University of traditional performing arts at Cheruthuruthy and finally a stay in a houseboat at the Alleppey backwaters. 9 Days - 8 Nights ( Cochin – Cochin- Thrissur-Cheruthuruthy Kalamandalam - Cochin - Alleppey - Periyar - Munnar - Cochin )
Day 1 : Arrival at Cochin — On Arrival at the Cochin International Airport, you will be met and assisted by our Indian Panorama Tour executive followed by a transfer to your hotel. Check into your hotel and relax.
Evening enjoy a Kathakali performance, a thoroughly entertaining local art form in Kerala. You will have an introductory and makeup demonstration followed by the performance by trained artists.Overnight stay at Cochin.
Day 2 : Cochin- Thrissur - Cheruthuruthy Kalamandalam - Cochin — Morning - Post breakfast drive to Thrissur, the city of festivals as it is called by the Keralites. Visit the Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Kerala. Later drive to Cheruthuruthy Kalamandalam, a university of performing arts run by the Govt. of India. Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Kootiyattam, Panchavadyam and Ottam Thullal are some of the major traditional art forms practised here.
This is a perfect chance to experience first-hand the traditional art forms of Kerala and interact with the artists. Many of the famous Kerala artists were trained here. Enjoy your time and learn about the art culture of Kerala at Cheruthuruthy.
Evening- drive back to Cochin. Overnight stay at Cochin.
Day 3 : Cochin - Alleppey via Manakkodam Village — Morning - Early morning visit the Chinese fishing Nets, witness the local fishermen engaged in their daily routine life.
Post breakfast- go for a walking tour in Fort Cochin. Admire the Dutch palace, the Jewish Synagogue and the street of Fort Cochin. Visit the Fort Kochi Beach and later drive to Manakkodam, a rural tranquil village in Alleppey District. Be the guest of a local family, enjoy a sumptuous Kerala style lunch.
Afternoon: Post lunch enjoy a guided village walk through Manakkodam village, come across local churches, school, coir making units, traditional huts and interact with the local people.
Evening: Drive to Alleppey, the popular backwater destination in the world. Visit Alleppey beach, watch the sunset and check in to your hotel and relax. Overnight at Alleppey.
Day 4 : Alleppey Houseboat — Morning - Post breakfast explore the local markets and streets of Alleppey. Visit the Gujarathi Street, Alleppey lighthouse, the CSI Church and later drive to the houseboat boarding point. Embark your houseboat and enjoy the cruise along the Alleppey Backwaters. Overnight stay in Houseboat.
Day 5 : Alleppey to Periyar — Morning - Post breakfast drive to Periyar. En-route enjoy a spice plantation visit, where you are introduced to various spices grown in Kerala and their various uses. Later, check into your hotel and relax. Evening enjoy a Tribal Dance by the Mannans. Mannans are one of the oldest tribes in India and have a unique culture and rituals of their own. Overnight at Periyar.
Day 6 : Periyar — Morning - Enjoy trekking through the thick woods of periyar, a refreshing and exciting experience.
Next up you will go for an “Elephant session” which includes feeding elephants, a photo session, elephant ride and also elephant bathing and shower. It is another great satisfying experience to stay up close and spend time with these giant mammals.
Evening- Enjoy a Kalaripayettu show. Kalaripayettu is an ancient martial art form indigenous to Kerala which includes body strikes, kicks and skilled use of weaponry. It is believed to be first martial art form originated in the world. Overnight at Periyar.
Day 7 : Periyar to Munnar [110 kms, 4 hours] — Morning - Post breakfast drive to Munnar, the princess of hill stations. Enjoy the ghat road ride to Munnar, it is filled with spectacular views at every turn to please every traveller. On reaching, visit the Tea museum. You will have a brief demo on the history of tea at Munnar and its various intricate process of tea making. You have a chance to interact with the tea- workers as well. Overnight at Munnar.
Day 8 : Munnar — Morning - Post breakfast visit the Mattupetty Dam, a concrete dam built in the mountains across the serene Mattupetty Lake. Enjoy boating at the lake and store some beautiful vistas of nature at this part of the world.
Afternoon- drive to Top Station, reviewed by many as the most beautiful place in Munnar. Once you reach see for yourself the breath taking beauty of the landscape filled with tea plantations, verdant valleys and grasslands. Overnight at Munnar.
Day 9 : Munnar to Cochin Airport Departure [180 kms, 4.5 hours] — Morning - Post breakfast as per your departure schedule, you will be transferred to the Cochin International Airport to board your flight back home. You will be met by our Indian Panorama Tour executive at the airport who will ensure your smooth departure. Tour Ends!
