Thiruvangad Sree Ramaswami Temple – Famous Lord Rama Temple in Kerala
Thiruvangad Sree Ramaswami Temple is one of the five temples dedicated to Lord Rama in Kerala. It is situated at Thiruvangad near Thalassery in the Kannur district. This ancient historic temple is known as the Brass Pagoda due to its copper-plated Sree Kovil. It holds historical significance as one of the outpost of the Thalassery fort in the 18th century. Despite damage inflicted by Tipu Sultan's troops in the 18th century, the temple survived.

The Thiruvangad Sree Ramaswami Temple boasts a history of over 2000 years. It features stunning architecture adorned with ancient sculptures and mural paintings depicting various epic stories. The presiding deity Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu is worshipped here as Thiruvangad Perumal. The idol is carved out in Krishna Shila, radiating timeless elegance in black stone. This sacred idol of Ramaswami is believed to be installed by the great saint Lord Parasurama.
According to legend, Agastya Muni was confronted by two hunters, Neela and Swetha, on his journey to the Kaveri River. The Muni initially cursed them, but later, feeling remorse, he instructed them to undertake penance. Following his advice, the hunters performed penance at Thiruvan kattu, eventually known as Thiruvangad. This sacred forest was also referred to as Swetaranyam, meaning "white forest."
