Sree Puttingal Temple – A Historical Temple in Kerala

Puttingal Temple is a sacred Hindu shrine located in the coastal town of Paravur, in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy (Goddess Bhadrakali). The origin of Puttingal Temple traces back to the goddess's presence being witnessed on an anthill known as Puttu. The current temple structure is approximately 200 years old.

The primary deity venerated in the temple is Goddess Bhadrakali. The idol of the Goddess stands at a height of 6 feet and is sculpted from stone, facing towards the east. Among the Upa Devatas in the temple are Vasurimala, Moorti, and Sastha. Every day, various poojas are conducted at the Puttingal Temple, and devotees make offerings seeking the fulfilment of desires and the resolution of various grievances. The temple's puja is performed by the Pathacheri family.

Celebrated grandly on the Bharani star of the Malayalam month of Meenam, the birthday of the Goddess marks the annual festival of the Puttingal Temple. Events such as Aswathi Vilakku, Kathakali, Kampadikali, and Marameduppu are associated with this festive occasion. 'Thottampattu' serves as the main offering, commencing on the 21st day of the month of Vrischikam.
