Mammiyoor Temple - Kerala

Legend has it that during their search for the perfect site to consecrate the deity of Lord Krishna, the planet Jupiter (Brihaspati) and Vayu (the wind god) arrived at the banks of a lake called Rudratheertha, created by Lord Shiva. Finding Lord Shiva in deep penance nearby, they sought his guidance, and he suggested consecrating the idol of Lord Krishna on the lake's banks. Accordingly, Lord Shiva relocated to the opposite side of the lake, and the place where the idol was consecrated became known as Guruvayoor. The area chosen by Lord Shiva for himself and Goddess Parvathy was named Mahimayur, later known as Mammiyoor or Mammiyur. Thus, it is customary to worship Mahadeva at Mammiyoor Temple after paying respects to the Lord at Guruvayur Temple to ensure devotees receive the full benefits of their worship.

Mammiyoor Temple is counted among the 108 renowned Shiva temples in Kerala and is one of the five Shiva temples in the Guruvayoor region. The other temples include Chowwallur, Perunthatta, Perakam, and Parambanthali, collectively considered the five faces of Shiva.
