Malayalappuzha Devi Temple
The Malayalappuzha Devi Temple, located in Malayalappuzha in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, is a famous Bhadrakali temple, believed to have been constructed over 1000 years ago. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, who is depicted here in a fierce form following the slaying of the demon, Darika. The deity is affectionately referred to as Malayalapuzha Amma. The idol of the Goddess at this temple is seen standing at 5.5 feet tall and is crafted from katu sarkara yogam (a rare and special preparation of idols).
Malayalappuzha Devi Temple - Kerala
Devotees flock to Malayalapuzha Devi Temple seeking prosperity, protection from enemies, matrimonial alliances for unmarried girls, employment for the jobless, and success in business ventures. The goddess, also known as Goddess Idathattil Bhagwathi, is revered for these blessings, attracting devotees from afar.
The temple is adorned with exquisite wall paintings, intricate stone carvings, and a unique statue depicting Goddess Parvati feeding baby Ganapathy. Additionally, an idol of Veera Bhadra welcomes visitors at the sanctum's entrance, while Brahma Rakshas, Nagaraja, and a swayambu Shiva Linga serve as sub-deities within the temple premises.
Legend has it that two individuals from the Namboothiri caste embarked on a pilgrimage to the Mookambika temple, carrying an idol of Bhadrakali. Following deep meditation, they received a divine oracle affirming Bhadrakali's perpetual presence with the idol. Encouraged by this revelation, they continued their journey guided by Bhadrakali. As they grew older and their journey became challenging, Bhadrakali appeared before them, directing them to Malayalappuzha. Following her guidance, they reached Malayalappuzha and erected the idol as instructed.
