Dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Janardanaswamy, it is a renowned Kerala temple with a history spanning over 2000 years. The deity, locally known as Varkaleswara (the lord of Varkala), is depicted with four arms, each holding a Shanghu (conch), chakra (discus), gada (mace), and Kumbham (pot). This ancient historic temple is beautifully positioned, overlooking the Varkala beach (Papanasam beach), known for its medicinal properties.
