The Hidden Rajasthan
Rajasthan is a vast state - the largest in India - and while many of its sights are well known, it is a place which is always revealing more and more interesting, ‘hidden’ gems. During a tour of some of these places in September 2009 we took many photos of people and places which we present here. These photographs focus on three very special places - Hacra Dhani, a unique encampment in the western part of the state which is a great base for camel trek and visiting villages in a very unobtrusive way; the area around Jojawar in southern Rajasthan where a superb train ride through the surprisingly lush Aravali hills is an absolute highlight and the eastern town of Karauli, a place remarkably yet to feature on most tourist routes through the state and home to one of the most spectacular palaces in all of Rajasthan.
