Ibrahim Rauza – The Ornate Mausoleum of Bijapur
Bijapur, Karnataka, India is home to the medieval Ibrahim Rauza complex. During the reign of Ibrahim Adil Shah II (1580-1627) of the Adil Shahi dynasty, a mausoleum and mosque were constructed. It has a beautiful architecture and is called the Taj Mahal of the Deccan because of its remarkably similar designs. In addition to a mosque, the complex houses the mausoleum of Ibrahim Adil Shah II and his queen Taj Sultana. The elaborate architecture of these buildings is well-known. The mosque is a stunning structure as well, including five enormous arches, hanging stone chains, and sculpted medallions. Constructed atop a lofty stone terrace, the monuments are surrounded by a tall tower, adorned with four elegant minarets, and approached via a pathway that winds through formal gardens. The elegant calligraphy of the era is displayed in the Persian inscriptions that adorn Ibrahim Rauza.
