Aadi Perukku - Indian Festival
Aadi Perukku is an important festival in the life of a farmer. The eighteenth day of the Tamil month Aadi is celebrated as Aadi Perukku. There is a mythological belief that whatever we do on this auspicious day will return to us manifold.
The inflow of water in Rivers are likely to increase during this period. Post - harvest period, every farmer eagerly awaits for a rise in the water levels in the reservoirs and in other water sources to start the sowing process towards the next farming season. Hence, prayers are offered to Rivers and water sources praying for a sustainable water resource and for the better yield in the ensuing season.
Typically, the life of a farmer is directly connected with all the natural sources. As water is highly inevitable for cultivation, special prayers are offered to the Rivers on this day. On the day of Aadi Perukku, farmers offer variety of flowers to the River which is worshipped as Goddess to bless them with sufficient water.
The banks of the rivers are flooded with people on this day and towards the evening, you can witness lot of game events arranged by the local organizations. The entire area wears a festive look with lot of shops and other entertainment factors for the children and adults as well. people prepare delicious eateries and share them with friends and relatives.
