One of the famous tourist spots in the Birbhum district for wildlife lovers who want to spend time with nature and the animals is the Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary and it’s a perfect gateway for the weekend tour.Ballavpur was established in 1977 and has an average elevation of 56 meters (180 feet) and it’s also known as a deer park because of its harbour.There are different species of deer some of which are spotted deer also called cheetal, and sambar deer also known as Rusa unicolor.

Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna providing habitat to different species of animals.So apart from the deer,you can also spot species like Indian rollers, peafowl, bulbuls, kingfishers,herons and different types of migratory birds and you can also see the various species of monkeys like macaques and langurs,reptiles including snakes,turtles and snake species like cobras,rat snakes and so on in the Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary.

This sanctuary is a well protected area and also has watch towers where tourists can get a glimpse of deer and other wildlife animals.They can also take a walk in the jungle paths,enjoy the views and lose themselves in the nature.For the migratory birds,the wetland has been created by three water bodies and it has a good number of resident birds too,like white-bellied treepies,cormorants,black-hooded orioles and so on.
