Specialty Of The Temple

There are many special things to be noticed in this temple. This shrine is for one of the most powerful planetary Gods Angaraka (Mars). Lord Shiva in this temple is in the self-manifested form. The two flag posts (Kodimaram) in front of the sanctum are made up of silver and gold respectively. In an unusual pattern, the nine planetary Gods or the Navagrahas are placed behind the sanctum, that too in a straight line as if being ready to obey the orders of Lord Shiva, their master!!

History Of The Temple

Vaitheeswaran Koil has the historic precedence of curing the diseases of those worshipping Lord Shiva with utmost sincerity. The planetary God Angaraka (Mars) once suffered from a severe skin disease. When he sincerely prayed to Lord Shiva, he got his disease cured. Upon his request, Lord Shiva stayed here permanently curing the diseases of His devotees.

Timings

The temple is open from 6AM to 8.30PM with the break timings between 11AM and 4PM.

Dress Code

No specific dress code is recommended to visit the vaitheeswaran-temple.Costumes covering upper arms and legs are suggested as a mark of respect to the gods of South Indian Temple.

Festivals

Ten days festival during January-February, 28 days Brahmothsavam during March-April, Skandha Sashti during October-November are the prominently celebrated festivals besides the regular poojas and special rituals on the auspicious days.
