Krishnapuram Palace

The Krishnapuram Palace, formerly the residence of the Kayamkulam royal family, is a two-storey mansion comprising 22 rooms. The Palace is a fine specimen of Kerala's Pathinarukettu style, characterized by gabled roofs, narrow corridors, and dormer windows. Maintained with great care, the palace now serves as a captivating museum complex showcasing a diverse array of artworks, artifacts, and numismatics spanning various historical periods. It offers a fascinating insight into the rich history and culture of Kerala.

The Krishnapuram Palace is famed for its colossal mural painting spanning 53 square feet, titled 'Gajendra Moksham' or the 'redemption of the elephant', portraying an elephant paying homage to Lord Vishnu. Within the palace museum, visitors can explore the royal family's possessions, including the renowned double-edged sword known as Kayamkulam Vaal. The museum also showcases various artifacts such as a Sanskrit Bible, megalithic remnants, stone, bronze, and wood sculptures, ancient coins, stone inscriptions, miniature figurines, antiques, rare paintings, and oil lamps. The meticulously manicured gardens, lush lawns, and expansive pond in the Palace premise add to its visual allure.
