Karnataka Tour Itineraries - Karnataka Hills & Wildlife Tour

Karnataka is a vast and varied state and a full tour of this part of India could take easily 3 weeks and still not cover everything. This itinerary focuses on the scenic hills and wildlife in the southern part of the state.

Karnataka Hills & Wildlife Tour - (7 Days & 6 Nights)

Day 1 : Bangalore - Mysore

On arrival in Bangalore, you will be met and introduced to your driver. Have a meal near the airport, or depart immediately to Mysore, a journey of around 4 hours. Depending on your arrival time into Mysore you may have time for some sightseeing or just a walk in the city’s diverse markets in the afternoon. Overnight in Mysore

Day 2 : Mysore

Historic Mysore is unquestionably one of the most interesting cities in South India and a half-day tour here can include some of the highlights- Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hill with its vibrant temple, and the famous Devaraja fruit and vegetable markets. In the afternoon, make an excursion to the intricately carved Hoysala-dynasty temple at Somnathpur, dating from the 12th century CE. Overnight in Mysore.

Day 3 : Mysore - Coorg

After breakfast drive to Coorg, a lushly forested region in the hills of southern Karnataka with an afternoon plantation visit to see coffee, pepper and cardamom, among others, being grown. Overnight in Coorg.

Day 4 : Coorg

Day excursion to the source of the sacred Cauvery River, the holiest in South India. Also visit Bylakuppe Tibetan community on the way back to your accommodation. Overnight in Coorg

Day 5 : Coorg - Nagarhole

Depart Coorg by mid-morning and drive to Kabini, on the fringes of Nagarhole National Park. Check in at your lodge or tented camp on arrival and later take your first safari into the Park in the late afternoon. Overnight at Kabini/Nagarhole

Day 6 : Nagarhole

Morning and afternoon safaris into Nagarhole National Park. We recommend a combination of vehicle and boat safaris- the latter take place on Kabini Lake and offer a great chance to see herds of elephants as they come to the water’s edge to drink. Vehicle safaris take you deep into the forest. Nagarhole NP is part of the huge Nilgiri Biosphere, the largest area of protected habitat in southern India, which comprises National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in all 3 southern states- Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The Biosphere supports populations of most of India’s iconic species- tigers, leopards, sloth bears, elephants, a wide array of antelope and deer species and countless smaller mammals and birds. Overnight at Kabini/Nagarhole

Day 7 : Nagarhole - Bangalore

Final safari at first light, then drive back to Bangalore for departure in the evening
