Named among one of the toughest hiking routes in South India, the Kumara Parvatha peak, is a least explored gem of a hiking destination. Nestled among the gorgeous chain of Pushpagiri mountain range, the Kumara Parvatha is a delight for the adventure lovers, and it is for sure a challenging one. It is the second highest peak in Coorg, standing 5624 feet above sea level. Best enjoyed during the pre-monsoon season, the 16 km hiking route is pretty tiring, however, it is worth the strenuous climb. As you push your way up the mountain through the thick jungle, it rewards you liberally by unveiling some of the spell bounding vistas of nature.
You have two options to start your trail from, one is from Bidalli [Somwarpet] and other is from the famous Kukke Subramanya Temple. The later is the most preferred route by travellers, since it is more scenic with lush green grasslands, gorgeous meadows, gleaming waterfalls and panoramic views of the mighty Western Ghats.

- Do carry warm clothes, as it gets bone-chilling at times. Proper trekking gears are recommended.
- Do check upon yourselves for leeches while you hike. “Leech Attack” is common here.
- Carry water, fruits and light snacks, avoid heavy food.
- Carry sunscreen and lotions.
- Carry your cameras if you are into photography, you would fall in love with Kumara Parvatha.
- Avoid alcohol and drugs, it will slow you down.
- Use a good strong stick to aid you during the long climb.

October- February is the best time to enjoy Kumara Parvatha.
How to reach Kumara Parvatha?
Catch a flight or train to Mangalore [120kms] or Bangalore [300 kms] as per the availability from your source destination. Get down the airport and hire a taxi to Subramanya or Baldelli as per your starting point preference. An approximately 8-10 hours hiking will take you to Kumara Parvatha.
