Thotlakonda

  • Thotlakonda

15 km away from the city of Visakhapatnam, is this famous Buddhist site called Thotlakonda. It is located on a hill 420 feet high above the sea level. The site was active during the period of 200 BC to 200 AD. Buddhist monks from far off lands such as China, Tibet and Burma used to visit here and stay for a long time before completing their Buddhist studies. It comprises of stone wells which collected water for the Buddhist monks who lived here, meditation halls, stupas etc. Thotlakonda is of huge significance for the Buddhists and it sees a lot of Buddhist visitors from all parts of the world.

Bhimli Beach

  • Bhimli or Bheemunipatnam

Bhimli is popularly known as the Hollander’s Green, owing the name to the Dutch settlement during the 17th century. A ruined Dutch Fort and cemetery is present here. Other than that there is nothing much left out here of the Dutch days of the past. The Bhimli Beach is a must visit and is great to spend time soaking the sun or hitting the waves. More than all of these, what makes Bhimli so famous is the 25 km drive from Visakhapatnam which is so entertaining with a lot of vivid beautiful scenes you would see flash through your window.
