Situated along the promenade of the beach, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi is a historic monument and a prominent landmark in the White town of Pondicherry. Built along the promenade it offers an excellent view of the old lighthouse and the Nehru statue.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a nonviolent independence leader who became Father of India. Leading India to independence, he inspired many people and to this day continues to do so. This statue of Gandhi in Pondicherry is the biggest Gandhi statue present in Asia. The granite pillars of the statue was brought from Gingee and the construction of the statue was completed in 1965.

Among the monuments in Pondicherry this one is one of the best monuments to visit. Situated along the beach, this statue sends out a clear message for righteousness for which Mahatma Gandhi stood for. As you leave after enjoying the evening along the beach side glancing at the statue, it feels as if a part of you is left behind.
