Manakula Vinayagar Temple - Pondicherry

The most popular temple to visit in Pondicherry dedicated to Lord Ganesh is Manakkula Vinayagar Temple. The most beautiful temple located at Pondicherry, an Union Territory in South India. The presiding deity Manakkula Vinayagar is believed to have been existing for the past four centuries and is the oldest Hindu temple in Pondicherry.

The temple has been in existence prior to the French colonization. Out of the sixteen different types of Lord Ganesha as per the concepts of Hinduism, the presiding deity in Manakkula Vinayagar Temple is of the type , Bhuvaneshwar Ganapathy.

The temple is located just 400 meters west of Bay of Bengal. Being the oldest Hindu Temple in Pondicherry, Manakula Vinayagar Temple is very popular among the tourists and devotees across the South Indian states. The ambience in the temple make you feel the divinity, with the elephant near the facade blessing you with its trunk. The shops around are busy with the devotees purchasing idols of gods and other incense flowers and sticks making the environment more aromatic.

Temple Timings & Dress Code

The temple is open from 6.30AM to 9PM with a break timing between 11AM and 4.30PM. Special Poojas and Rituals are done on Sankatahara Chathurthi Day. With respect Dress code, you can go in costumes suiting the tradition of South India to the maximum extent possible.
