A late night walk inside the forest area, mainly the Periyar Tiger Reserve of Thekkady is a different experience that will be etched in your memory for a long time. The night patrolling inside the forest is organized daily and has three timings: 7-10PM, 10PM-1AM, 1AM-4AM. 3 hours is the maximum duration for a slot. The night trek through the Thekkady forest cost INR 1400 per person.

Children under 12 years are not allowed to take part in the night patrolling. One is actually helping in the protection of the forests of Periyar, by participating in this night patrolling. A maximum of two teams is allowed that contains 5 to 8 patrollers. Each team is accompanied by an armed forest guard and two guides who will guide your path and gives you information.

Travelling through the wilderness requires a good level of mental and physical fitness. To explore the world of nocturnal jungle life is quite a different experience. The cool ambience of the forest with starlit sky will make you feel like heaven. The journey through the jungle is both thrilling and exciting, moreover, the eagerness to seek the wild animals is the best part of it.

The jungle voices seem to be scary as well as stirring. The sight of wild elephant, samba deer, bison, wild rabbit and porcupines from such proximity is so amazing. If you are lucky enough you can also witness mouse deer, civets, flying squirrel, and even various nocturnal bird species. Make sure to wear trainers or walking boots and long sleeved tops during your trek.
