The Idukki Arch Dam located in between two mountains is in the shape of an arch. The Dam started storing water in the year 1969. The Dam is built on the Periyar River in between the Kuravan and Kurathi Hills. The Dam started generating power in 1975.
A walk towards the top of the Dam is sure to take one’s breath away. The Dam and the areas around the dam are known to have a strong breeze that blows throughout the year. The lush green beauty and the chance of standing in between two great hills is an experience that stays in the heart for a long time. The Dam also offers boat rides for tourists. It is one among the top ten highest Arch Dams in the world and the third highest in India.
