The vast expanse of breathtaking salt desert, one of the largest in the world, the Rann of Kutch is situated in the Thar Desert along the borders of India and Pakistan. The Great Rann of Kutch along with the White desert together is the Rann of Kutch.

One of nature’s wonder is when you set your eyes on the astonishing Great Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. The thick layer of salt covered by a layer of sand does not let any life thrive within miles of it. Walking among the crystal salts, you can feel the moods of the desert changing according to the time of the day.

During the mornings, the desert wakes up in a lull, the afternoons are when it is seen at its fiery best and with the evening it again becomes a calm dusk with the setting sun.

The marshy land usually dries up only during the mid of December and lets you get down on the salty Rann. If you get an opportunity, visit the desert during a full moon night, as that is the time when the Kutch is at its best.

The Rann of Kutch can only be visited by obtaining a permission from the Gujarat Police office because the Kutch is located close to the India-Pakistan border.Bhuj is the gateway to the Rann of Kutch and adds as a great place you can visit on the way to Kutch.

It is a historical city with a great number of Kings and empires. You should definitely taste the Kutchi food as the taste speaks for itself.The Rann of Kutch was once enveloped by the Arabian Sea and after a geographical lift the connection with the sea was cut off forming a lake which turns into a vast salt desert.

The desert becomes a marsh during the monsoon and return back to a brilliant white glory in the summers and winters.

How to reach

By air : The nearest airport is at the city of Bhuj at a distance of 80 kilometers from the Rann desert.

By rail : Bhuj which is the nearest city has a train facility near Kutch at a distance of 80 kilometers.

By road : You have to cross Bhuj to enter into the Rann of Kutch from where you have a comfortable access to road transport.
