Borra Caves is a rare geological delight located in the Ananthagiri hills of Araku Valley in the Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. It was discovered by William King George of the Geological Survey of India in 1807. These supernatural caves are perched at a whopping elevation of 1,400 m above sea level. It extends to a depth of 80 meters and is said to be the deepest cave in the country.
Borra Caves is said to have formed as a result of the flow of the Gosthani River on the limestone deposits in the region. In the magical world of Borra Caves, the exquisite variety of speleothems ranging in size and irregularly shaped stalactites and stalagmites will take you by surprise. These limestone formations are truly a visual treat for visitors and may appear to you like Shiv-Parvathi, Mother-Child, Human Brain, Rishi's Beard, Crocodile, Tiger, Cows udder etc.
