About Auroville Matrimandir

The name ‘Matrimandir’ means the ‘Temple of the Mother’, which is located in a huge open area called ‘peace’. It is based on the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and emerges as huge golden sphere that gives the impression of rising out of the earth. Matrimandir is not a shrine in the traditional sense, but it’s a place where can get utmost tranquility and peace.

About Aurobindo Ashram

The Aurobindo Ashram is based on the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and Sri Ma (mother), the place is not only a measly ashram, but it has a lot more for spiritual seekers. Beside life style teaching process, Auroville has many activities- Afforestation- Aurovillians completely support Mother Nature and planted more than 3 million trees to save earth. Apart from afforestation, Aurovillians also believe in watershed management for the whole area. Organic farming, research in medicine, food processing and food production are some other activities held in the ashram.

People who live in Auroville do not express their activities to outsiders. In order to grasp some more knowledge about Auroville ashram, a person should spend at least three months to experience the unseen mysteries. An individual can visit Auroville anytime, but visiting the place as a visitor and coming with purpose to join Auroville, are two separate things. It is suggested that visit the ashram as a guest first the make your mind to join the place ashram.

How To Reach Auroville Ashram?

Aurobindo ashram is well-conjoined by rail and road to other prominent cities. Sri Aurobindo ashram is approximately 10 kms north of Pondicherry. Visitors can take buses from Parry’s Bus Station and from there they can hire auto rickshaw or taxi to reach Auroville.
