The Amer Fort, situated in Amber, 11 kilometers from Jaipur, is one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan. Amer, originally, was the capital of the state before Jaipur. It is an old fort, built in 1592 by Raja Man Singh. This fort is also very popularly known as the Amer Palace. The Amer Fort was built in red sandstone and marble and the Maotha Lake adds a certain charm to the entire Fort. Though the fort is quite old and may even look so from the outside, it is beautiful on the inside and boasts of various buildings of prominence like the 'Diwan-i-Aam', the 'Sheesh Mahal' and even the 'Sukh Mahal'. The Amer Fort has influences of both Hindu and Muslim architecture. This fort also has the 'Shila Devi' Temple and the 'Ganesh Pol' which is a gate that leads to the private palaces of the kings. The Amer Fort has many pavilions and halls of great interest and other popular attractions.

Amber fort is situated at the distance of 11kms from Jaipur the “pink city”. This is one of the remarkable forts in Rajasthan. Amber was the capital of Jaipur in early days. Though the fort is hoary now, it still holds its charm and attracts people from all over the world.

Amber was known as Dhundar in, during the rule of Kachhwahas from the 11th to the 16th century. Later Raja Man Singh built this fort and expanded Amber. The fort is dived into four part, each having separate entrances. Suraj Pol “Sun gate” is the main entrance to the fort, this entrance faces east. Once we enter this, the fort has lot of interesting things to flaunt. Every part of this palace is an amazing work of art. The “Magic flower” a fresco carved out of marble stone is a major attraction in here.

Other places to visit in and around Amber fort are Jaigarh Fort, Aravalli Hills, Vijay Garh and etc. The fort is a ten minute walk uphill. Trekking uphill this fort is worth the strain, as the palace is a filled with architectural marvels. Royal elephant ride is also available in here, which will be both fun and thrilling.
