You can start of from Chennai, which is the gateway of South India where you can visit the age old buildings that stand still despite the test of time. You get to go on a visit to the Fort St. George, the Marina Beach and the Kapaleeshwar temple.
After that you can visit the ruins of the ancient city of Mahabalipuram which according to legend made even the gods jealous. Pondicherry is likely to be your next destination after Mahabalipuram. It is a city filled with rustic roads and cafes. Famed for its prevailing French colonization, Pondicherry is a city that has preserved its French ways in India.
As you travel further south, you can get to visit the great city of Tanjore which was the capital of the Cholas. You can visit the Brihadeeshwara temple, the Maratha Darbar hall or the Sivagangai park. From there you will reach the ancient city of Madurai which with its tangy cuisine and monumentous temples will leave you gaping with open mouths.
The Meenakshi Amman temple with its tall towers, which are so tall that your craned necks will still not be enough, is a World Heritage site. From Madurai, you can travel to Kerala where you get to visit theforests at Periyar, go on a boathouse ride along the backwaters of Kumarakom and Alappuzha. You can tour around the harbors and beach at Cochin to have a relaxed time before your trip back home.
