On the Trail of the Tiger


This 2-week itinerary takes in the three most famous ‘tiger parks’ in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The focus is on wildlife safaris (12 in total) making it as close as possible to a guaranteed certainty that you will see tigers on this trip. The tour concludes with time in Orchha and Agra and finishes in Delhi.

Day 1
 Arrive Mumbai
You’ll be met on arrival in Mumbai and assisted with the transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Mumbai

 Mumbai- Pench
Transfer back to the airport for a morning flight to Nagpur and depart immediately for Pench National Park, arriving for lunch. In the afternoon, take your first safari into the Jeep safari spotting tigers and other wildlife in IndiaPark. Overnight at Pench National Park.


Day 3 and 4
Pench
Two days with morning and evening safaris deep into Pench National Park; like all your safaris you will be accompanied by an experienced naturalist whose knowledge of the forest will give you the best chance of being in the right place at the right time to see tigers. Or leopards, nilgai, sloth bear and many others. Two more nights at Pench National Park.

Drive to Kanha
After a final safari in Pench at dawn, depart for the 5 hour drive north to Kanha. You’ll arrive mid afternoon with the remainder of the day free to relax. Overnight at Kanha National Park.

Days 6 & 7 Kanha
Four safaris over the two days to explore the expansive grasslands and dry deciduous forests of Kanha; tigers are sighted here more often than perhaps anywhere else in India. The remainder of the time you will be free to relax in the luxury of your jungle camp, or perhaps take an escorted walk in the ‘buffer zone’ of protected habitat which surrounds the core National Park area. Two more nights at Kanha National Park.

Day 8 Kanha- Bandhavgarh
After a final safari in Kanha, depart for Bandhavgarh, a drive of 5-6 hours. Remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight at Bandhavgarh National Park.

Bandhavgarh
Bandhavgarh is a smaller park than Kanha but still boasts a healthy tiger population as well as a wealth of other mammalian species.Those you are most likely to see include spotted and sambar deer, nilgai and langur monkeys while there are also significant populations of leopards, chinkara (Indian gazelle) and the beautiful but rarely-seen chousingha, a four-horned antelope. Two more nights at Bandhavgarh National Park.

 

Day 11 Bandhavgarh- Orchha
Your final safari will take place at dawn, with a departure later in the morning for the small town of Orchha. Arrive in Orchha by mid-afternoon and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this historic riverside town. Overnight in Orchha.

 

Taj Mahal, Agra, India.
Day 12 Orchha- Agra
Morning to explore Orchha and later drive 3 hours to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal late in the day; overnight in Agra.

 

Day 13 Agra- Delhi
Revisit the Taj in the morning if you wish, before driving 4 hours to Delhi. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 14 Delhi  
Final day in India’s capital with a choice of guided sightseeing, a walking-tour or time to shop. Transfer to the airport in the evening for your flight home.
